Results stress help.....

Those of us in year 12 and 13 at around 9am tomorrow will either be jumping with joy or crying in despair... As a complete worrier myself I haven't been able to stop thinking about them and this has not only put me off food, made me have a limited amount of sleep but it's also made me physically sick....

And then I thought to myself no amount of worrying is going to change what that piece of paper says I can't change an exam that I sat months ago! What's the point in making myself ill... If it goes bad there's resits, and other oppurtunities. It may not be what I feel I want to do but in the long run it could be!

Top Tips for Dealing with the stress!

1) Relax...

Which I know is easier said than done, however I downloaded an app called 'take a break' and there's also one called 'digipill' After I'd listened to the destressing sound with a voice talking to me about relaxing I was in a complete meditative state and I ended up having one of the best nights sleep in a long time.

2) Take a nice bubble bath...

Taking a bubble bath is one of my favourite ways to relax, I usually have candles and some relaxing music on. The heat works away all the tension and the candles and music help me feel like I'm in a spa recieving VIP treatment!

3) Imagine everything going well...

I tell myself soo many times that I've failed or won't be getting the grades I need and each and every time it makes my anxiety and stress worse! I've read that if you hear something/ tell yourself something soo often it will become true.. so turn those negative thoughts into positive ones. Everytime you tell yourselfI'm going to fail stop and say no I'm going to pass and succeed and repeat that thought throughout the day It will help with the anxiety and make your mind focus on retraining itself rather than what the piece of paper will say!

4) Contact people who know about exams and unis...

Once you recieve your results and if you feel you need help coming to terms with them or feel like you need someone to talk to then please reach out to somebody!

UCAS have a helpline which is specifically for help about universities and more information on applying etc... so if your results are great or not so good and you want to see what university options are available then contact them on: 0871 468 0468

BBC Radio 1 have a brilliant results helpline which they run on both GCSE and AS and A2 results days and even the days in-between. Here you can talk to professionals about your results and what options are available to you and even other ways to get into the career you want... I feel that this is really beneficial and I know loads of people who called last year and said that the people were soo friendly and supportive that they left the phone conversation feel 1000 times better and like the future was bright not bleak which I believe we all need to feel from time to time! If you'd like to contact them then here's the contact number: 0808 100 8000

5) Remember a piece of paper does not define you or your future!

I think it's key to remember that this is not the end of the world! People who have no qualifications have managed to make it to the top like Lord Alan Sugar! He's got a massive business empire that started from the back of a van! And there are other ways to get into a good career or into a different career...

I've heard of a lady who didn't get the grades to go to medical school, however she started working in public health for about 4-5 years and made her way up to the top she then re-applied for uni and got accepted to do a medical degree! It took her longer than it normally would have but if you have a dream that you want to achieve time is nothing!

Just remember that grades aren't always everything some universities may see a quality/something in you that makes you stand out so if the grades are not expected/ those required they may look over it after all they're looking for OUTSTANDING individuals with something SPECIAL and UNIQUE about them which we all have just in different ways!

6) Good luck for the results....

Whether you're celebrating or not about your results I'd love to hear from you about how you all did and help in anyway possible! I know how stressful this time has been for us all and I know how nervous we all are! Just remember it is not the end of the world and a lot can be done!

Lots of Love
